Here,Gallestegui reachesfar and wide for selections that reveal the rich tradition of classical music, but venture far beyond
standard ballet fare. His varied choices include music by Bizet, Paganini, Rachmaninoff and Tchaikosvsky, along with six new compositions by the pianist himself. A sensuous arrangement of Khachaturian's Violin Concerto serves as music for rond de jambe, while a haunting Basque melody is one of three choices for plié. Some of Gallastegui's lesser-known and most exuberant choices - Paraguayan composer Digno Garcia's Cascada (for center tendu) and Henry Wienianski's Tarantella (for the diagonal) -- virtually defy any dancer to stand still.
